Call for Participation - Libre Graphics Meeting 2027
We are thrilled to announce the twentieth annual Libre Graphics Meeting (LGM) 2027, to be held from Wednesday, May 5 to Saturday, May 8 in Linz, Austria. This annual gathering is an opportunity for teams, contributors, and practitioners involved in Libre Graphics to work together, share experiences, and hear new and inspiring ideas.
By Libre Graphics, we mean “Free, Libre, and Open Source tools for creative uses.” LGM is not just about software but extends to standards and file formats used in creative work. Participants in LGM include developers, designers, academics, artists and activists from around the world who are passionate about Free/Libre tools and their creative applications.
If You're New to LGM
- This is the 20th one and as every year, we are excited to welcome newcomers!
- You can check out previous talks here https://media.ccc.de/c/lgm2026/ and here https://www.youtube.com/@LibreGraphicsMeeting/videos
We Are Looking For
- Reflections and practical sessions on promoting the philosophy and use of Libre Graphics tools
- Technical presentations and workshops for developers
- Showcases of excellent (artistic) work made using Libre Graphics tools
- New tools and workflows for graphics and code
- Reflections on the activities of existing Free/Libre and Open Source communities
- Opportunities for developers and designers from different projects to coordinate
We Are Interested In (though you do not need to engage with these if they don't fit your proposal)
- Human first approaches
- Local-first, non-cloud, or resource-constrained approaches
- Slow, small, un-precise things
- Sustainable, consistent, long-term building of projects, systems and infrastructure
- One thing, done well
- Many ideas, well confused
- Collective knowledge and tool sharing outside of the realm of software (riso stencil printing, 16mm film, ...)
Available Formats (times include Q&A)
- Entry for State of Libre Graphics (1-2 slides)
- Presentations (20 minutes)
- Birds of a Feather (BoF), Workshops, Hackathons (1-2 hours)
In addition to talks, LGM 2027 will include a wider range of opportunities to present artistic works. Formats we welcome include:
- Performance (A/V, live coding, etc.)
- Video/Film (up to 20 minutes length for the short film competition and public screening)
- Other forms of artwork, from prints to books to installations, provided they can be set up quickly and accommodated in a shared space with tables and electricity. (For specific questions ask joak@servus.at)
Each meeting begins with a joint session bringing together everything that has happened in our wide landscape over the past year. Instead of slots for general updates on the various projects, we invite every team to submit two slides (maximum) with a short explanatory text showcasing the progress made over the year. For first-time presenters and particularly big or new topics in established projects, we encourage additional stand-alone submissions.
